July - August 2011
FURLOUGH: The Lord sure has given us a beautiful country, and furlough gives us the
opportunity to see it. July and August found us in the Southeast part of the United States
travelling from North Carolina, down to Florida, up to Tennessee, and across to Texas. Our
meetings have been a blessing as we have had the opportunity to renew acquaintances and see
God at work in the family of churches that support us. Allow me to share with you some of the
highlights of our journeys and some prayer requests that we would ask that you join with us in
prayer about.
WORD OF LIFE RADIO: In our last prayer letter we mentioned that we had raised $4,380
for new equipment to take back with us for Word of Life Radio. At the writing of this letter,
$15,000 has come in, which is about 46% of the amount needed. Churches and individuals have
been so generous. From a little child in a church in Florida who gave $2.00, to a church in
Georgia who gave $5,000, God has been bringing in the amount needed. God is so good.
Please continue to pray as we get closer to our goal.
BIMI: The end of August we had the opportunity of attending Enrichment Week at our Mission
Agency. This is a time of great encouragement the mission offers missionaries on furlough. Our
children joined other missionary kids for a week of rafting, amusement parks, bowling, and hiking,
while Sally and I enjoyed several guest speakers and getting a lot of paperwork done. It was
truly a relaxing week, and we thank BIMI and all those associated with this great ministry. We
were truly enriched!
YOUTH CONFERENCES & CAMPS: With our children being in their teens this furlough,
they have had the opportunity of attending camps and conferences. Shane and Stanley were able
to travel with our church teens to a youth conference in Florida and hear some great preachers .
Then our pastor asked me to preach our school camp the end of September. Our three oldest
children were able to stay the entire week, where we saw the Lord work on their hearts. The
theme was "Get In," encouraging teens that this is the time to get in the ministry, not look for ways
to get out of it.
NEW CHURCHES: One of our goals and prayer requests on this furlough was to raise some
additional monthly support, and again, God has been answering our prayers. We have seen
Victory Baptist Church of Carterville, Illinois; Old Paths Baptist Church of Holly, New York; and
Harvest Baptist Temple of Clyde, Ohio add us to their missionary families. Our heartfelt thanks
to them! Please pray that God will continue to add to our support.
OUR E-350: Our van has been running very well in spite of the extreme heat we have been
facing. Though there has been some close calls on the road, God has protected us from other
drivers and has kept the engine running very well. I want to thank Baptist Missionary
Transportation Ministry for making this van available to us while on furlough. While we were in a
pizza restaurant, a lady asked us if the van with Baptist Missionary Transportation written on it
belonged to us. When we confirmed that it did, she handed us $50 "for gas to help you along."
God can use anything, even a van sign, to provide our needs.
TECHNOLOGY: Technology in our generation has allowed us to do things faster, with better
quality, and less cost involved. With the rising cost of postage and the large amount of people we
are sending letters to, we would like to start offering to send our prayer letter via email in a .pdf
format. This way you can get the prayer letter quicker, with the same quality, and not have to
worry about it coming through the mail. In the next couple of months, the missions' secretary
from our home church will be calling each of our churches to ask them if they would like to start
receiving our prayer letter in this format. If you would like to continue receiving it via hard copy,
no problem, we will keep sending it. Anyway that we can be a better steward of the Lord's
money - that is our desire.
THANK YOU: We want to thank all of those churches that we have been to on furlough. We
have been treated far better than we deserve. If we have not been in your church yet, we are
looking forward to sharing what God has been doing through our lives. Your support and
prayers are truly felt and we thank you for allowing us to represent your church in Uganda. May
God richly bless you as we continue in His work together!
