March - April 2011
FAMILY TIME: Can it be possible that we have been in the States for almost two months
now? My, how time flies. March began with a final get-together of the Stensaas families before
leaving Uganda. We camped on the Nile River, rafted in its waters, and enjoyed a great time as
a big family. We praise the Lord for allowing us to all serve in the same country.
STATESIDE: On the eleventh of March we were picked up by one of our pastors at the
Houston airport and taken to our home church in Austin, Texas. There we spent two weeks
seeing friends and family, adapting to the American time, and preparing for our furlough travels.
Our church family was so gracious in outfitting us with clothes, materials, and money needed to
get us prepared for the road.
TRAVELS: So far, our furlough has taken us through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois,
Indiana, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode
Island, and even into Canada. Long driving? Yes, but what a blessing the meetings have been
(and how smooth these roads are!). The missions conference at Old Paths Bible Baptist
Church in Rochester, NY was a special blessing to me as I was able to sit back and listen to the
tremendous preaching of Missionary James Hoffmeister. We are very grateful for Old Paths
Bible Baptist Church and Victory Baptist Church for taking us on for monthly support. My
thanks to all of the churches we have been in for making us feel welcome and for allowing us to
present our ministry.
TRANSPORTATION: May and June will be spent mostly in the Missouri - Nebraska - Illinois
areas. Please pray for safety and provision in travelling. We are using a 15-passenger van from
Baptist Missionary Transportation Ministry. We praise the Lord for the van, however, it
certainly has a big appetite that must be satisfied on a continual basis.
GOALS: While in the States, our goals are as follows:
1). To increase our monthly support. God has given us the opportunity of being in 24 new
churches this furlough. Pray that God may speak to hearts about partnering with us in prayer
and support to continue the work in Uganda.
2). To raise $15,000 - $20,000 to replace much needed radio equipment for Word of Life
Radio. To this point we have seen $400 given towards this. Pray that the Lord will again
speak to hearts of churches and individuals who would help us with this great cause. The radio
is reaching thousands of people every day with the gospel. Please help us to continue this great
ministry.
3). To see God raise up men who will answer the call to go to Uganda and reach the people
there with the gospel.
4). To report to our churches who have faithfully supported us through the years and share with
them what their missions dollars have been doing in the furthering of the gospel on the African
continent.
5). To let our children see the United States. Our oldest, who is sixteen, has spent a total of
two and a half years in the States. We want our children to learn about the country as we
travel. So far we have seen Niagara Falls, The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Plymouth Rock,
the Mayflower replica, The First Baptist Church of America, the St. Louis arch, the USS
Constitution, Paul Revere's house, and the Old North Church. Their geography lessons are
definitely 3D.
UGANDA: Continue to pray for our churches in Uganda. Souls are continuing to be saved and
baptized, and the churches are growing. Pray for missionaries Tony Applegate and Marlin
Petersen who are overseeing much of the work there in Masaka in our absence. Pray for
Uganda as a nation as there have been many upheavals among the people since the last
presidential election.
THANK YOU: If we have already been in your church this furlough, thank you for your
graciousness. If we have not been, we are so looking forward to being with you and sharing
with you the goodness of God. Thank you for all your prayers and support and may God richly
bless all of you as we continue in His work together!!
