May - June 2011
FURLOUGH: The miles continue to roll under our van as we travel down the furlough trail. In
the past three-and-a-half months we have travelled over ten thousand miles, and we are just
getting started. During the entire month of May we were able to base out of my dad's home
church in Marshall, Missouri as we visited our supporting churches in Missouri. It was a blessing
to have a "home" to come home to each week. While visiting Midwestern Baptist Church in
Omaha, Nebraska, Sally had the opportunity to speak at a ladies' luncheon. All of the churches
that we have visited have been so gracious to us, and our children are making many new friends.
FUN: As well as reporting to churches, we are enjoying some fun family times, too. Our dear
friends, the Miltons of Operation Renewed Hope, took our family to a professional baseball game
while in Kansas City. Calvary Baptist Church in Marshall, Missouri took our family with their
Christian School to see the Bridal Caves. While in southern Missouri, we took the kids to Silver
Dollar City, the Noah performance at Sight & Sound Theater, and horseback riding.
VBS: At Lafayette Bible Baptist Church we had the opportunity to teach in their Vacation Bible
School. Several were saved, and one girl, Amy, felt the call of God to go to Uganda as a
missionary. Praise the Lord! While at VBS, we were able to send our two oldest boys to Triple
S Christian Ranch with the youth group from Trinity Baptist Church in Murphysboro, Illinois.
They had a great time, especially with it being their first time for them to go to camp.
UGANDA: Furlough is tiring, but the friends made, churches visited, and the places seen make it
worth it all. That being said, our hearts are still in Africa. Uganda is our home, and we do miss it
very much. God is continuing to work there in our absence as people are getting saved and
baptized. Brother Tony Applegate has informed me that the Bible College is doing well with ten
students, and the radio station is continuing to broadcast the gospel of Jesus Christ. They are
getting ready to start breaking ground for a new facility for the Orphan Boarding School of Grace
Orphan Project. When you do anything for the Lord, the devil is always going to fight tooth and
nail, and fight he has. Pray that we will continue to stay faithful despite the onslaught of Satan's
attacks.
WOLR: Pray for Word of Life Radio! We are on a backup transmitter reaching only a mile out
from the station while we wait for the main transmitter to be fixed. Electricity, or the lack thereof,
continues to fight us. Pray that we will be able to raise the money needed to update our
equipment so that we can reach even more with the gospel. We have raised $4,380 which is
about 13% of the total amount needed. I believe in God, and I do believe that God is going to
provide in a miraculous way.
July and August will be spent in the Southeast and South central part of the States. Please pray
for safety and provision in our travels. The van continues to run well, but has a tremendous
appetite. Pray for our family that we will grow closer and maintain a close walk with the Lord.
Pray, also, for our support level that we will be able to see it raised while here on furlough.
May the Lord bless you as you continue in His work. Thank you for your prayers and financial
support. If we have already seen you on this furlough, thank you for making us feel welcome. If
we are going to see you, we look forward to it with anticipation. Until we meet. . .
